The project is located in the northwest of Sahneh town and the main objectives of the project are as follows:

• Supply agricultural water demands of the Sahneh Plain and a portion of Cham-Chamal Plain.
• Supply drinking and industrial water for Sahneh town.
• Regulate the water of the Maryam Negar River.
• Supply agricultural water for the farmlands existing around the project area.
